Windows Runtime Errors In Depth
Runtime errors, such as runtime error 429 and runtime error 126, are usually generated when a currently running software program experiences a problem. Some of the common problems that might generate runtime errors on your system are:
- Conflicts with other programs running on the system.
- Software problems.
- Malware infections.
- Memory problems.
To find out whether the runtime error is occurring due to conflicts with some other program or utility running on the system, you need to clean boot the system and troubleshoot to identify the conflicting program. You can do this by performing the steps listed below:
- Open the Start menu, select Run, type msconfig, and select OK.
- In the System Configuration Utility dialog box that opens, select Selective Startup.
- Under the Selective Startup option, clear the Process SYSTEM.INI, Process WIN.INI, and Load Startup Items checkboxes.
- Open the Services tab, select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then select the Disable All button.
- Now, open the Startup tab, select the Disable All button to clear all the checkboxes.
- Next, select one of the check boxes of a startup item on the Startup tab and then restart your PC.
If you receive the Runtime error, then the selected item is causing the error. If you do not receive the error, then repeat the process for all startup items on the Startup tab and all services on the Services tab visible after hiding Microsoft-specific services—until you find the program that is generating the error. After you have identified the faulty program, rectify the fault in this program to repair the error.
If you are still not able to fix the error, then ensure that your operating system and other applications and device drivers installed on the system are up-to-date with the latest patches and hotfixes released by product manufacturers. This is important because outdated and incorrect files usually trigger runtime errors on Windows computers.
Malware infections due to computer viruses, Trojans, and worms may also cause runtime errors on your computer. These malicious programs may tamper with the system configuration or memory of your system and generate runtime errors. To prevent errors due to malware infections, you must always keep your antivirus tool updated with the latest virus definitions and run regular scans to remove any malicious information from the system.
You must also check the registry of your system for problems. Many computer errors, including runtime errors, are caused by a damaged registry. The registry gets damaged due to the accumulation of a large amount of junk information within it that makes it grow very large and eventually damages it. When a registry gets damaged, it is unable to provide the correct information to applications running on your system and thus generates errors. To fix registry errors, you must regularly use a reliable registry cleaner tool to scan the registry for errors, and repair them.
If none of the other tasks fix the runtime errors on your system, then it is possible that fault lies with hardware or memory installed on your system. In this scenario, you must get in touch with the manufacturer of your PC to identify hardware related problems on your PC are and get them repaired.
