Avoid DLL Errors to keep your computer running well

Causes of DLL Errors

Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files are a library of executable codes and functions that can be called on by the Windows operating system installed on your PC and programs installed on it to execute specific tasks. When you first install Windows XP on your computer, there are already several DLL files on it and many others come in later when you install various programs and utilities on it. Due to the presence of numerous DLL files on the system, the chances of DLL errors are quite high. DLL error may occur when:

  • A shared DLL gets deleted or overwritten—by an older version—when you uninstall or install programs.
  • Faulty device or device drivers are installed.
  • Incorrect system configuration.
  • DLL files get damaged or corrupt.
  • Registry gets damaged.
  • System is infected with malware programs.

If DLL errors become a common affair on a PC, the PC is said to be in DLL hell.

Dealing with DLL Errors

To avoid DLL errors from occurring on your PC, it is important for you to take some preventive steps.

Be a vigilant user. While uninstalling applications ensure that you do not remove a DLL file that is being used by other applications on the PC. In the same way, while installing applications, take care to not overwrite newer DLL files with their older versions.

Ensure that the required program or driver is on the system. Missing DLL errors usually occur when a program required to run your application is either not installed on the system or is corrupt. For instance, you may receive the xvidcore.dll error if the XviD codec required to run the files in this format are not installed on your system.

Ensure that there is no problem with system settings. Many DLL errors occur due to incorrect system settings. For instance, hpzr3207.dl error occurs due to incorrect regional settings. Therefore, when troubleshooting DLL errors you must ensure that all system settings required to run the program using the DLL causing the error are correct.

Scan, remove, and prevent malware infections. Malicious programs, such as virus, Trojans, spyware, and adware are one of the main causes of several PC problems, including DLL errors. In order to keep your PC free from these programs and their malicious effects, you must install reliable antivirus and antispyware tools on your system. You should run these tools regularly to perform full system scans and ensure that your PC is free from any malicious information. Additionally, you must turn on the real-time protection feature of these tools to ensure that no malicious program infiltrates your PC.

Repair system registry. In order to function, each and every DLL file on your system needs to be registered in the registry. If your registry is damaged or the entries within it are corrupt, DLL errors may be generated on your system. To resolve these problems, you must regularly scan and repair registry errors. You can easily do registry repair and maintain a healthy and error-free registry with help of a reliable and efficient registry cleaner tool. You can even use your registry cleaner tool to perform a customized search for DLL errors and repair them.
