Can anyone solve this computer problem for me?
When I turn the computer on a blue screen appears with text telling me, amongst other things, that "a driver has overrun a stack-based buffer." I am also advised to check for any newly installed hardware or software. The only newly installed software I can see (not installed knowingly by me) is an application called WLinstaller. Should I try and uninstall that or how else can I fix the problem? All advice gratefully received with thanks in advance!
I believe WLInstaller is "Windows Live Installer", so MSN Messenger or similar. I doubt that is causing the problem, but then again I cant see your monitor.
If your computer restarts after the blue screen but you can get into windows in safe mode then I recommend trying to turn off the auto restart option…
Right Click "My Computer" and choose properties.
Click the "advanced" tab.
Click "settings" under startup and recovery and disable "auto restart".
Also make sure it writes to event log on failure, which will be useful for diagnosing your problem.
Good Luck.

Press F8 before windows loads and boot into safe mode and see if you get the error. WLinstaller might be related to something you installed, but you can try to remove it to see what happens, while you are in safe mode.

Did this problem start afer installing windows xp sp3 update, should be related to windows live installer. Try pressing f8 at boot to get into safe mode. run msconfig and switch off messenger at start up, reboot and see if that fixes your problem. Then you can try re-installing windows live messenger if you use it, if not leave the system as is.

This program has to do with the installation of Windows Live. If it is the valid program then the program is not a threat. The program may have created an error though. Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Use the program to delete WLinstaller.

Or maybe your hard disk is corrupted. If you installed the Recovery Console for Windows XP, use it. choose where you installed Windows, and type in your administrator password. Then type CHKDSK. with out any perimeters. If it says 'The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems' then you are F**KED

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
