How do I fix this computer mouse problem?
Whenever I click the scoll button on any program, the help page for that program comes up instead of allowing me to automatically scroll. For example when I click the scroll button on an Internet Explorer page, then Internet Explorer help page appears. When I click the scroll button on the desktop, Help and Support opens up. How can I fix this problem? It is running XP service pack 2
Nothing's wrong with the mouse. I have tried couple of other mice and I have tried then on other computers as well.
Tried control panel settings for the mouse. No options there.
It doesn't act like the right click button. It opens up the help page of any program/window.
I tried both PS2 and USB mice. Both does the same thing.
Tried both mechanical and optical mice. All of them are Plug and Play. No softwares required.
I have tried all kind of mouse and it still does that. I have tried bluetooth/wireless, mechanical/optical. usb/PS2 mice. My computer is up to date.
I went to mouse properties, but if you go to it from your computer, then you will see that there is a tab for wheel, but there is no option that will allow me to change the function of the wheel.

I believe that the "scroll" button, also acts as a clicking button. It does the same thing as when you right click.

This sounds like there is some software controlling the mouse. Got to the control panel, click on mouse and see if there are options you can alter there.

I was going to suggest to do device setup in Mouse Properties. But if device setup is not there, I recommend buying a new mouse (wireless are better) but if you dont want to do that, then uninstall and reinstall the mouse drive. First try to right click My computer > go to Hardware tab, click on Device Manager and click on the positive sign under mouse, right click on the mouse. Try to update the driver… [but that is not necessary]. Scan for hardware… or uninstall and reinstall the driver that came with the computer.
